        ANS. The author found a roll-top desk in a junk shop.

        ANS. He found a small tin box there. It had been placed there by Ms. Macpherson                                      as I  think.

     ANS. No, Jim Macpherson never came back at home from the war. Perhaps                                therefore  his wife Connie had preserved his letters.
